Crochet Cathedral Doily

Follow this free crochet doily pattern to make a beautiful lace doily. The design is very quick and easy to make and will look great anywhere in your home.
I made the stunning Crochet Cathedral Doily with cotton thread size 10 and a 2 mm crochet hook. Its size is 16 cm (6,3 inches) in diameter.
Besides your chosen thread and crochet hook, you will also need a needle to weave in loose ends and a pair of scissors.

Instructions
Make a magic ring.

  • Round 1:Ch 3 (counts as dc), 18 dc in the ring, pull the thread end to tighten the ring, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3. (19 dc)
  • Round 2:Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), (dc in next dc, ch 1) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch4. (19 dc and 19 ch-1 spaces)
  • Round 3:Ch 3 (counts as dc), only 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3. (56 dc)
  • Round 4:Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), (skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch4. (28 dc and 28 ch-1 spaces)
  • Round 5:Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3. (84 dc)
  • Round 6:Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), (skip 1 dc, dc in next dc, ch 1) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch4. (42 dc and 42 ch-1 spaces)
  • Round 7:Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in next ch-1 sp, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next ch-1 sp) around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3. (126 dc)
  • Round 8:Ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), dc in same stitch, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc, * in next dc work (dc, ch 1, dc), ch 2, skip next 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 2 dc; repeat from * around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch4.
  • Round 9:Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), in same ch-1 sp work (dc, ch 1, 2 dc), ch 3, * in next ch-1 sp work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc), ch 3; repeat from * around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3.
  • Round 10:Sl st in next dc and in next ch-1 sp, ch 4 (counts as dc and ch-1 sp), dc in same ch-1 sp, ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3, * in next ch-1 sp work (dc, ch 1, dc), ch 3, sc in ch-3 sp, ch 3; repeat from * around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch4.
  • Round 11:Same as Round 9.
  • Round 12:Same as Round 10.
  • Round 13:Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 3 (counts as dc), in same ch-1 sp work (2 dc, ch 4 and sl st in top of last dc, 3 dc), ch 3, sc in sc, ch 3, * in next ch-1 sp work (3 dc, ch 4 and sl st in top of last dc, 3 dc), ch 3, sc in sc, ch 3; repeat from * around, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first ch3.

Fasten off and weave in loose ends.

  3. No, it’s 18. There is an error at the beginning of rnd 3- should be 2 DC in 1st sp. I used a 7 hook and made adjustments throughout to make it flat.

    • I just checked the pattern again. There is no error. The pattern starts with 19 dc and at the beginning of round 3 it has only 1 dc in first ch-1 sp. If you start with 18 dc or if you put the extra dc in round 3, then when you reach round 8 you will find that the number of stitches you have is incorrect and you will have to make adjustments there.
